This report highlights many of the efforts around the world to outlaw media that is contrary to the mainstream narrative. This is just hideous. Some of these laws sound as if they are flat out “thought crimes”. Set aside expressing the belief. If you have written it down and the government sees it, they can somehow places a motive on it and declare you guilty. Being from the United States, we have engrained in our Constitution the right to Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech. I know that these same types of laws are being pushed everywhere, including my own US. There was a recent report about the Disinformation Governance Board (sounds like Ministry of Truth) that was started in 2022, then quickly shuttered has been stealthily brought back as the Foreign Malign Influence Center. The right to free speech is the most basic of rights. It is the right for me to have an opinion and express it. It does not depend on my opinion being popular or even correct. I have the right to be wrong. No one should be able to state that any ideas are wrong except for themselves (or their children). In the court of public opinion, ideas will live or die. If you express ideas that are too antithetical to the conscience of the populous, those expressing the ideas will be shunned and marginalized from society. Simply having a government body that determines what is able to be heard or expressed by its citizens is the far more dangerous than someone stating something that is hurtful to a person or group or heaven forbid critical of the government.
