Senator Malcolm Roberts of Queensland Australia debunks the fear mongering from a colleague that the Great Barrier Reef is dying. It is simply responding to natural variations in its environment. He covers most aspects but does miss one that I can think of. CO2 is plant food. Heat plus CO2 causes plane life to flourish, greening the planet. Before industrialization we were in a CO2 drought. This was largely being caused by CO2 being sequestered in sedimentary rock that is produced by microscopic life forms dying in the oceans and building up on the ocean floor. Over eons these layers of carbon containing corpses compress into limestone that traps this carbon. If it were not for the industrial revolution, it is likely that we would have fallen below the level of CO2 that would cause the death of all plant life and after that animal life would no longer exist. I find it hard to believe we are looking to build colonies on Mars. We have a vibrant living planet here. Let’s trade that to go to a dead planet in the hopes we can bring it to life. The colonist within a very short time will become incompatible with living on Earth. Spending years living on a planet with 1/4 the gravitational pull would likely atrophy their muscles to the point that they could never come back to the Earth. Sorry, I digress. We have a great, vibrant and dynamic planet. It has incredible resilience to variations of all kinds. CO2 has been 20 time higher than it is now and life flourished then. Don’t fall for the hype that you are killing it.
