Fr Calvin Robinson schools a Cambridge student on why reparations are just wrong. He is British so he covers the rightful place that Great Britain played in ending slavery around the world. I look at the subject from a more American perspective. I am from a northern state. We fought the bloodiest war in our history to abolish slavery. Who should pay if half the nation fought to end the practice? We live in a a fluid nation. I have relatives in South Carolina. Do they pay? Does my connection to the region mean I pay? Did my family support slavery or have direct involvement in the forced servitude? How do we make these determinations?
No, the talk is that all white people benefit from the remnants of slavery and must pay. Guilty of the “sins of the father”. White people fought to end slavery in the United State and there have been countless others that have fought the lingering societal disparages. I am not saying the black people did not fight to end slavery as well. They just were not in a position to create the standing army that was needed to make it happen at the time. So how do you determine who pays? Is the formula, “everyone that looks like me pays everyone that doesn’t”? That is hideous and does not account for the character or acts of the individual. You know that whole content of character and not color of skin thing that someone once talked about… Regardless, love Calvin Robinson!!! and GREAT HAIR!!!
